Whether you're just starting your career or looking to make a change, an electrical apprenticeship offers hands-on training, real work experience, and the chance to earn while you learn.

What is an Electrical Apprenticeship?

An electrical apprenticeship is your direct, hands-on pathway to a technical career without the burden of university debt. It’s a structured, four-year program that combines paid on-the-job training with formal study, allowing you to earn a wage while gaining a nationally recognised Certificate III in Electrotechnology (Electrician).

At Zeal Futures, our pathway to becoming a certified electrician is a smart alternative to traditional study options, offering a faster route to a steady income and strong job security. You’ll develop valuable, real-world expertise by working alongside electrical industry experts on residential, commercial, or industrial projects.

Backed by expert mentoring from our team, you’ll be given the right tools to build a stable and rewarding career. An electrical apprenticeship with Zeal Futures sets you up for a clear, professional future with skills that are highly sought after across Australia, including how to operate electrical equipment and how to maintain electrical systems.

Why choose an  Apprenticeship (VET)

  • Earn while you learn: paid employment from day one, with leave, super and entitlements.

  • Hands‑on skills employers want: learn on real sites with real tools.

  • Nationally recognised qualifications: portable across Australia and stackable with tickets.

  • Transferable skills across industries and locations.

  • Strong job security in skills‑shortage trades

Most electrical apprenticeships take between 3 to 4 years to complete, during which you'll develop the essential skills and knowledge needed to become fully qualified, all whilst getting paid.

How much does an Electrical Apprentice earn?

As an electrical apprentice, your wage will increase progressively throughout your training. Several factors affect your exact remuneration. Factors such as age can increase your starting pay, with adults over 21 years of age typically earning more than their younger peers.

To get a sense of the opportunities available to you, please get in touch with our team. For an overview of what a professional in the industry can earn, see the figures below.

Salaries for Qualified Electricians

The average salary electrical professionals typically earn is $90,000/year ($43/hour), with salaries in Australia ranging from $47,800/year ($23/hour) to $131,600/year ($63/hour). This information is up to date as of 2025.

Post-completion of their course, entry-level professionals can expect to earn around $65,000/year ($31/hour).

Pay & progression

Your pay increases as you progress through the apprenticeship, linked to time and/or competencies (award‑based). You’ll also have access to overtime, penalties, and site allowances where applicable. A typical progression looks like:

  • Year 2: More independent tasks, first tickets/licences, assist with fault‑finding
